Uncovering the Ways Students Attempt to Cheat
One of my students, whom we’ll call “Brian,” once proudly informed me that he had passed the real estate exam without using my study material. Intrigued, I asked him how he accomplished such a feat. Brian confessed that he had hidden my “cheat sheet” (which all my students receive) in the bathroom. During the exam, whenever he encountered a topic he was unfamiliar with, he requested a bathroom break. In the privacy of the bathroom, he quickly reviewed the cheat sheet, returned to the exam room, and answered the questions correctly.
You might be tempted to think, “Wow, that’s a clever idea!” But here’s the reality: Brian had the wrong mindset. Simply knowing the material isn’t the most crucial aspect of obtaining your real estate license. To thrive in this industry, you must be willing to make sacrifices, perform tasks you dislike, and put in the necessary work, even when you’d rather be lounging at home.
The real estate exam is more than just a series of questions; it’s a test of your determination, work ethic, and ability to execute.
Unfortunately, Brian never found the success he hoped for. In fact, he quit his real estate career after just six months. This outcome shouldn’t surprise those of us who understand what it truly takes to prosper and make significant earnings as a real estate agent.
The Consequences of Cheating on Your Real Estate Exam
While the benefits of cheating may seem appealing, it’s crucial to consider the potential consequences. In my real estate exam study group, there was a young lady who was caught cheating. She asked the group for advice, and here’s how she responded:
“I deeply regret my actions. Cheating was a terrible mistake, and I understand the importance of public trust in our profession. I have cheated in the past, so I can’t judge anyone, but I acknowledge that my actions have serious consequences. I want to make amends and regain the trust of others.”
As real estate agents, one of our primary responsibilities is to promote public trust. Without trust, our profession would cease to exist. Now, I’m not here to pass judgment on this young lady; after all, I’ve made the same mistake myself during my high school and college years. However, it’s important to recognize that if you’re caught cheating, your license can be revoked, and you may even face legal prosecution. It’s just not worth taking such a risk.
