Introduction
Alexander Bokor serves as a judge of the Florida 3rd District Court of Appeal, assuming office on September 1, 2020. His current term will come to an end on January 2, 2029. Bokor was appointed to this position by Governor Ron DeSantis (Republican) in 2020, replacing Vance Salter.
Biography
Bokor holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Prior to his appointment to the Florida Third District Court of Appeal, he served as a judge on the Florida 11th Circuit Court and the Miami-Dade County Court. Bokor’s professional experience also includes working as a clerk for U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday and as an attorney with the law firms Jones Day and Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, P.A.

During the 2020 municipal elections in Miami-Dade County, Bokor was the only candidate who filed for the Florida 11th Circuit Court seat. However, he withdrew from the election following his appointment to the Florida Third District Court of Appeal.
2018
In the 2018 municipal elections in Miami-Dade County, Bokor participated in the nonpartisan election process for the Florida County Court. County judges, including Bokor, serve six-year terms and must run for re-election to retain their seats. In case of a midterm vacancy, the county courts follow the assisted appointment method used by the appellate courts. Judges selected through this method serve for at least one year before running for re-election.
To serve on either the circuit courts or the Florida County Court, judges must meet certain qualifications, including being a qualified elector, a state resident, and under the age of 75. They must also have been admitted to practice law in the state for five years. However, the requirement of five years of practice can be waived for counties with a population of 40,000 or fewer.
